I've been a fan of the Delta Force series for quite a while, but this installment of the game, Delta Force Extreme, has been the best yet. Delta Force Extreme is a militaristic First Person Shooter that is primarily played online. The online play is free--there is NO monthly fee.

You can drive and fly different vehicles, and there are several different gameplay types available.

The graphics are fantastic on this game, and even if you don't have the latest, fastest computer, and you don't have the best video card, this game can be adjusted down in graphics to where you can still have a VERY reasonable framerate and yet it still looks really decent even with the graphics settings down.

Another great aspect to this game is the fact that people are still able to play it even if they have a phone modem. I have high speed, so I'm not really worried about that, but there are some people who really can't afford a better connection than that. I wouldn't recommend hosting this game if you have a phone modem, but joining other servers works out great for those with phone modems.

The way they've handled the lag situation ends up working out great too. I've been on some maps with TONS of people on it and almost never run into any problems associated with lag. They really did something right with this one.

Because people are able to make their own maps, and some people are GREAT at making maps, there are some co-op missions that are available in the Public Games that are a SERIOUS CHALLENGE.

Drawbacks:

The vehicles that you can drive around don't have the best, most realistic physics to them. This is because they were focusing so much on trying to keep both a good framerate and trying to keep down the server lag.

When you're in the water, unless you have a ladder or something to climb up, or the land elevation increases, you can't go from the water to let's say, the top of a dock. Most of the time, the people that make the maps put something in them to take care of this, but still.

Overall, I give Delta Force Extreme a 9 out of 10 for this type of game.

The one thing I always liked about the DF games was the open maps for sniping. But they really suck when there's 5 people on a huge map. I've always liked the creation aspect as well. But something about that game in particular always seemed cheap. Visually and control wise I mean. Like a cardboard cutout. That probably didn't come across right. Anyway, Xtreme is the best one I've played.
